Jun
glaze
Jun glaze, first fired in Jun kiln at the Song dynasty,
is an outstanding representative of furnace transmutation
glaze. The characteristic is that it glitters red
or purple speckle in the whole sky blue. It is analyzed
that it suspends numerous small round particles
among the successive glass phase medium. The cover
coat can takes on beautiful blue opalescent because
these small particles can scatter short wave light.
Additionally, it also takes on magenta because the
colour generation action of the reduction copper
in the glaze. It sets off with sky blue each other
just like a rosy cloud. The poet praised its movement
and beautiful colors with "the purple setting
sun become to blue suddenly." In addition,
the glaze juice of the Jun glaze is thick, the glaze
bubble is big, there are curves just like "earth
worm mark" in the glaze and the cracks of the
cover coat are different in size. It is measured
that the Jun glaze is fired by reducing atmosphere
at 1260℃--1270℃.

Oven
Jun glaze
|
Oven Jun glaze, a kind of low temperature glaze,
imitates Jun kiln fired by Jingdezhen during the
years of Yongzheng in the Qing dynasty. The firing
method as follows: the porcelain body fired by high
temperature is fired again at the low temperature
furnace after it is glazed. Therefore, it is called
oven Jun glaze. According to the Record of the Southern
Kiln, oven Jun glaze is fired by furnace. It is
the best if the color is suffused with red dot.
On the contrary, it belongs to the second-class
if the color is suffused with blue dot.
The oven Jun glaze has rich color tone including
pale blue, fresh green, chun red glaze, vermilion
red and so on. It looks very gorgeous because it
has strong luster by using frit glaze. But it lacks
of the sense of massiness and riot of the high temperature
glaze. The characteristic of Jun glaze in the years
of Yongzheng is that the glaze not only flows fast
but also takes on mauve after it flows. Usually,
there are orange skin designs just like sheet on
the cover coat. It takes on various kinds of colors
when glistening. The flowing shape of the furnace
transmutation in the years of Qianlong is as fluency
as the ones in years of Yongzheng. The color of
the furnace transmutation design is suffused with
blue in the glaze. But it doesn't flow fluently
down to the years of Jiaqing. Moreover, the color
is blue. It is no longer natural furnace transmutation
after the years of Daoguang. The circles, bigger
than grain of rice, are drawn on it by purple paintbrush.

Earth worm
mark
|
Earth worm mark is one characteristic of the Jun glaze.
Usually, there are many curves just like earth worm track-like
in the glaze. If the glaze cracks or it occurs the phenomenon
of crack at the beginning of firing and the cracks are filled
up by the part of low viscosity at the high temperature,
it will form. It occurs crack and creeping and other phenomena
because its glaze is especially thick and the porcelain
body is biscuit fired before glazing.

Fiery
red

It is a kind of imitation Jun glaze fired by Jingdezhen
during the years of Yongzheng in the Qing dynasty. Furnace
transmutation fancy glaze, one kind of imitation Jun glaze,
takes on fiery color and design after fired by high temperature
because many different colored glazes are glazed on one
vessel. The occurrence of fiery red indicates that the
fancy glaze include rich colors. A furnace transmutation
ear vase made during the years of Yongzheng was shown
at the Imperial Palace. It is an outstanding work. Purple
speckles glittering red are dispersed in the glaze. Red
as flame is the basic glazed color from the neck to the
ring of the vase. Among them, flare blue, flare yellow,
bluish white and other colors radiate downhill by the
shape of needle. The entire vase is magnificent just like
